The Global Development Awards Competition is administered by GDN, funded under the Policy and Human Resources Development Fund (PHRD) trust fund managed by the World Bank, and generously supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan.
The competition will feature two categories:
I. The Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (2021)
The Global Development Network (GDN) invites researchers from low-income or middle-income countries to submit research proposals within the theme, ‘International trade and the promotion of biodiversity.’ The three winning projects will receive grants worth US$ 45,000. Find out more.
Additionally, there is a Call for ORD Reviewers which ends on 19 May 2021 for individuals that would like to take part on the evaluation of proposals.
II. The Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (2021)
The Global Development Network (GDN) invites non-profit NGOs and CSOs from low and lower-middle-income countries to submit project applications within the following three themes:
- Universal health coverage and COVID
- Community-driven climate-related disaster risk reduction in rural areas
- Quality urban infrastructure and community driven governance.
For each theme, the winning projects will receive grants worth US$ 45,000 and, in total, the MIDP category will award 9 grants worth US$ 135,000. This award provides assistance to exceptionally marginalized and disadvantaged groups by supporting innovative development projects in developing countries. Find out more.
Additionally, there is a Call for MIDP Reviewers which closes on 5 May 2021 for teams of individuals with experience in evaluating this sort of projects to pursue the evaluation of projects under this category.
Finally, there is a Call for a Communications Training consultant ending on 31 July 2021 from which we will select the individual(s) responsible for delivering the communications’ training to the finalists of both categories before their presentations to the High-level Jury that will define the final ranking
